Located on South Wabash Street in downtown Chicago is what could quite possibly be billed as the largest bookstore dedicated to the subject of architecture in the country. Prairie Avenue Bookshop is a beautiful, two level architecture bibliophile's Mecca. They carry books on every conceivable subject associated with architecture...and an especially nice selection of titles on Frank Lloyd Wright. They are also one of the few places in the country with a large collection of original Wasmuth portfolio plates for sale. Mingled in and amongst the books are also original pieces of Wright furniture (chairs from the Coonley playhouse, a desk from the Dwight, IL bank, a table from the Hickox house.) All of this combines to form a wonderful browsing/shopping experience. I plan on spending many more hours haunting this wonderful store and I invite you to do the same.
