A good friend of PrairieMod's tipped us off to a new national Historic Landmark that's practically right in our backyard. The Alfred Caldwell lily pool in the Lincoln Park section of Chicago was recognized by the U.S. Department of the Interior last month.
The lily pool was given a make-over in the 1930s by Alfred Caldwell (considered by some the last great Prairie School designer) thus making it significant artistically. It had fallen into disrepair while being used as a bird sanctuary by the Lincoln Park Zoo, but funds have been raised and its restoration has begun. We at PrairieMod applaud the effort to save this important piece of Chicago's cultural history.
