It's definitely been the Year of Louis Sullivan. Recently, it was announced that the flagship State Street Carson Pirie Scott & Co. store will be shutting its doors by early 2007. You can read about it by clicking this link. Couple this with the loathsome renaming of the Marshall Field's brand to New York's "Macy's" and you have a sad times for Chicago shoppers.
But, Chicago always bounces back better than ever. Luckily, historic preservation has come a long way since the days of the Chicago Stock Exchange tear-down...so even if the Carson's building isn't a Carson's anymore, it's architecture will shine on for generations to come.
