I really enjoyed your discussion with Alan Hess on the battle between the international style and organic architecture in the 50s. This could be a great topic to blow out into a larger discussion. Break down the two, compare and contrast principles, etc. Through my personal tour experiences, I have noticed that people generally react emotionally, almost instinctually, to organic, and intellectually to the International style (more explanation is often needed to understand "value" of International style).
I am a member of ODO (organic design operatives). We are exploring issues of design, of all stripes, and how it helps/hinders our relationship and connection to nature. Which brings me to this point: perhaps the different reactions lie in the sources of each approach (i.e., the machine vs. nature). While the machine ideal obviously manifests itself in International style buildings through the lack of ornamentation, it also is prevalent in broader strokes, such as through the almost extreme abhorrence of representationalism. Internationalism is an abstraction of an abstraction. It is an abstraction of a man-made object vs. an abstraction of nature.
Anyway, this could be an interesting path to go down. Thanks for the site and podcasts.
