DuPage County Forest: Alternative Fleet Vehicles
I ran a 5K race this past weekend at the Danada Forest Preserve in Wheaton, Illinois. It was a fantastic morning and a very enjoyable race. As I walked through to the other side of the chute at the finish line, I raised my sweat soaked head and noticed an interesting logo on the back of a Forest Preserve vehicle. The graphic indicated that the truck was an alternative fuel vehicle. Additionally, the sedan next to that truck was also an alternative fuel vehicle. In fact, the majority of the parking lot was filled with these unique fleet vehicles!
When I returned home to recoup from my performance at the big race, I got online and found this great article that was published by the DuPage Forest Preserve District in their quarterly communique, The Conservationist. The article details the use of these fleet vehicles over the past four years and offers insight into the various types of alternative fuels that the fleet runs on.
The wonderful locales within the Forest Preserve District have always been favorite places for me to enjoy the glorious remnants of our native prairie land. A few years back they built a Prairie Style administration building at the Danada Forest Preserve (I couldn't find a photo) and another Prairie Style building for the Region 2 Illinois Department of Natural Resources headquarters, which also doubles as the James 'Pate' Philip State Park Visitor Center (see the photo below).
I think we can now officially categorize the DuPage Forest Preserve District as PrairieMod!
