Earlier today, I landed in Phoenix, AZ for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation's 3rd Annual Design & Development Conference. This four-day event will be jam packed with fascinating guest speakers, panelists and tours.
I'm particularly interested in hearing keynote speaker David Hovey discuss the challenge of creating designs that are rooted in modernists traditions but have an eye towards appropriateness of time and place. Michael Des Barres will also be talking about how young architects are changing society and turning heads with the power of ideas. There are even more great things that will be covered and I'll be bringing you live, daily updates via the PrairieMod podcast.
Today was a casual day of optional activities. In the afternoon, I went on the 90-minute desert tour of Taliesin West. It was wonderful to see natural plant forms like the Saguaro Cactus, Chain Fruit Cholla and the Creosote Tree. All of these plants inspired Frank Lloyd Wright to design structures like The Johnson Wax Building and Price Tower. The day ended with an evening reception on the terrace of Taliesin West.
Tomorrow promises to be a full day, but I'll give you the rundown of what happened at the end of the day. Until then...
