On a recent trip to the Garfield Park Conservatory (which is awesome and will be discussed in a future post), I spied an interesting pamphlet that had a surprising wealth of information. What it turned out to be was the Winter/Spring program schedule for lectures and classes coordinated through the Chicago Center For Green Technology. What is this Center about, you ask?
Well, according to Director, Stephen V. Bell's message at the front of the program:
Central to our mission is Mayor Daley's belief that environmental innovation is key to continuing to improve the quality of life for Chicagoans. With this in mind, CCGT continues to foster new partnerships and develop programs that will enable both businesses and residents to adopt responsible practices for environmental living.
One of the things you can obtain from taking these classes is a Green Tech U certificate. The Green Tech U certificate program is designed to respond to the demand for educational resources in green technology. Green Tech U provides an opportunity to meet like-minded people, expand professional networks, and increase knowledge of issues related to sustainability, green building and public policy. Green Tech U offers certificates in the fields of Architecture, Building and Construction Management, Engineering, Green Business, Interior Design, Landscape Design and DIY Green. Some of the interesting programs scheduled for this semester include:
• The One-Watt-House™—February 27
• Green Renovation of High-rises in Chicago—March 10
• Daylighting By Design: The Works of Alvar Aalto in the Far Northern Latitudes—April 3
• Ecology of Design—April 19
These are just a few of the classes and lectures offered this semester. Check out the CCGT website for in depth information on these and other events. Go Green, Chicago!
