The Mason City, Iowa Globe Gazette published a recent article on the terra cotta tiles being restored for the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Park Inn Hotel. It's part of the ongoing restoration effort to save this remarkable building (and the only hotel designed by wright still standing.) As the article points out:
“The terra cotta tiles and the art glass are the main ornaments on the building,” said Mason City architect Martha Huntington. "They bring in lightness and color without adding a lot of frills to the buildings,” she said.
This is a prime example of how Wright used the principles of unity, natural materials and simplicity to bring his designs to life and imbue them with the design excellence that keeps people enthralled to this day.
