One of our loyal readers sent us some info on some upcoming events that will be held at Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois. The events, coordinated by a5, a Chicago-based marketing firm and Seven Generations Ahead, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of ecologically sustainable communities, are co-producing 2 events focused on sustainability.
Cradle to Cradle Workshop
September 18, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This Cradle to Cradle workshop will focus on creating eco-effective principles that can benefit industry on Tuesday, September 18, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple in Oak Park.
Ken Alston, CEO of MBDC and former Director of Sustainable Product Innovation at SC Johnson & Son, will lead the workshop. MBDC is a product and process design firm dedicated to revolutionizing the design of products and services worldwide. William McDonough and Dr. Michael Braungart founded MBDC in 1995 to promote and shape what they call the "Next Industrial Revolution" through the introduction of a new design paradigm called Cradle to Cradle Design.
According to architect William McDonough, "If humans are truly going to prosper, we will have to learn to imitate nature's highly effective cradle-to-cradle system of development." McDonough believes industry is currently pursuing a cradle-to-grave production cycle, dumping products into landfills at the end of their 'life.' Cradle-to-cradle design seeks to transform industry by creating products that maintain resources in closed loops, maximizing material value without damaging the ecosystem.
Participants on September 18 will learn the principles of Cradle to Cradle and how products can be certified and optimized through MBDC's process. Registration is $125 through www.greentownconference.com.
The workshop is perfect for company CEOs, vice presidents of marketing, product designers and product managers and others with responsibility for development, marketing and production.
