As we hinted this past weekend, a few of the PrairieMod Squad members were invited to spend a night at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin Estate. Ryan Hewson and Christian Butler, apprentices from the FLW School of Architecture, wanted to show us the early progress on their new shelters at the estate. We'll be posting more info later with photos and drawings, but check out this old post of another apprentice's desert shelter at Taliesin West.
And no, we did not see the ghost of Mamah Cheney wandering around!

These photo are of the space at Midway Barn where we slept. The space was designed by FLW apprentice Joe Fabris, who also designed the Spring Valley Inn....
Photos of the Hillside School Dining Room, Theater and Studio. We actually got to sit by the fire near the very spot Frank Lloyd Wright drew plans for many of his famous structures....
Photo of Frank Lloyd Wright's Broadacre City model....
Photos inside and outside Taliesin at dusk. We got to go in places that are strictly off-limits during general tours...
We got to kick it in the main living room for about an hour as the sun set. It was amazing sitting in a space with so much history....not to mention that it has been described as the greatest "living space" in America! That's me chilling at the inglenook in the red glow of the room....
We were also able to go see William Wesley Peters' farm called Aldebaran, which is very sweet...
Then we finished the day checking out Herb Fritz's Hilltop conference and retreat center....
Finally, on the way back to Chicago we stopped at the Wyoming Valley School, designed by Wright...

Very nice - was just there this past Mon/Tue. A friend stayed in the same place at Midway as you. I stayed at Usonian Inn. Got to see lots of extra places, too. I now love that place!
