I've been searching for a suitable replacement to the cringe-worthy ceiling fan that hangs from our Mid Century Modern ceiling and I think I may have found the winner: Behold the Noguchi Ceiling Lamp.
I stumbled across the official Isamu Noguchi Museum website recently and fell in love with the beautiful, simple and airy paper lamps. As described on the museum's website:
Akari Light Sculptures by Isamu Noguchi are considered icons of 1950s modern design. Designed by Noguchi beginning in 1951 and handmade for a half century by the original manufacturer in Gifu, Japan, the paper lanterns are a harmonious blend of Japanese handcraft and modernist form. The ceiling shades are made of handmade washi paper and bamboo ribbing.
I think the aesthetic of this "Less Becomes More" lamp will be a perfect fit for the Little Red Mod-House. Take some time to cruise the Noguchi Museum website to learn more about this important designer and his many iconic contributions to Modernism.
