Little touches continue in the "model room." After we moved in a bed from one of the other rooms, we realized that the bedspread we had just didn't fit the new color scheme of the room. It was a really nice bedspread and seemed like a terrible waste to get rid of something just because the color was off. So, we decided to do a little hunting to see if there was something out there on the market that would save the day.
After searching at several stores, we ended up at West Elm. For those who aren't familiar with the store, it has a very "accessible modern" vibe to it--kind of a CB2 remix. Amongst the pillows and white ceramic vases--down near the "sale bin"-- we came across something that looked very promising.
What we came across was a duvet cover--basically a glorified pillow case, but for your bed comforter. What a perfect idea! This would allow us to cover up the old comforter with a new look, while still maintaining the functionality of it. We found one in the right size with the color and a geometric pattern we also liked. Then it was back home to test it out.
With a little finagling, we got it to fit over the old comforter. The result was perfect!
The blue coordinated well with the latte color on the walls, the white ceiling, the reddish hue of the wood and the blue found in the new rug.
Add to that the subtle, but interesting geometric/diamond pattern and you've got a winning addition to the room. We're slowly, but surely adding little nuances to our room--testing the waters and making sure that each little touch only adds to the over visual experience, instead of competing or detracting in some way. Keep watching as we look forward to finding the perfect furniture, wall art and window covering for the room. Until next week!
