We caught wind of some exciting news for all you FLOR fans out there! The forward thinking, eco-friendly company (in conjunction with maXimo) will be releasing a line of modular carpet tiles utilizing Alexander Girard designs. Girard is one of the foremost designers of American textiles in the 20th century. His designs are known for their balance of vibrant color, whimsical design and pure sophistication.
Interestingly, Girard designed fabrics for Herman Miller and in 1953, wrote a letter to the company’s founder describing his dream to create a carpet tile floor system with a series of “interesting patterns” … to make possible a great variety of rug sizes by multiple combinations”. This is what FLOR is all about and now Girard's dream has come true!
The Girard line of carpet tiles is based on Girard’s “sun” designs from La Fonda del Sol restaurant, which was open in New York City between 1961 and 1971. Each six-tile rug measures 3-by-5 feet and can be purchased for $149.99. The four designs include: La Fonda del Sol Verde, La Fonda del Sol Pequeno, La Fonda del Sol Mandarina, and La Fonda del Sol Azul.
The collection is due this spring, but final details are still pending. We'll keep you posted about when these sweet carpet tiles are available!
