When people think about the ideas of Charles Darwin, it usually recalls the debates over evolution and religion. However, a new exhibit at the Block Museum of Art explores how Darwin's ideas also impacted the world of art, architecture and design.
Titled "Design in the Age of Darwin: From William Morris to Frank Lloyd Wright," the exhibit explores:
Darwinian and other modes of evolutionary thought extended into the realms of architecture, the decorative arts, and design, as well, where biological terms like “adaptation,” “fitness,” “functionalism,” and “type” were used by theorists and practitioners alike.
Sounds like some pretty heady stuff. But checking out the website and some of the cool items that are on display guarantees it will be a visual delight--even if the rest of it flies over your head. Check out the website for yourself and see you there!
