Tanya and Jim, need help! If you have any leads or tips for them, leave a comment.
We just bought two very cool mid-century chairs and I'm trying to find out more about them. They were made by Stow Davis Furniture of Grand Rapids, MI. One of them still has the original tag. They were part of order number 54823, style no. 113, finish no. 51. We'd love any help folks can give about their origin.

FYI, the black lump in the middle of the chair is not part of the design. It's one of the cats who is a REALLY big mid-century modern fans.

Second try, first time my whole story was erased when previewing it.
Stow-Davis was a manufacturer of more upscale (office) furniture and was acquired by Steelcase in '85. Your chairs are probably from the '70s and are mass produced office chairs for board rooms, offices etc. Steelcase considered them a bit more of a premier product in their own line-up.
Hope this helps.

Thank you Willem! I actually just heard from the folks at Steelcase. The chair is the England chair and was designed by Burt England. They are still producing the chair and it retails for $1,035. Unfortunately they could not give me an help with when *my* chair was made, but I think you are right -- probably late 60s/early 70s judging by the fabric color (orangey red).

I purchased a used bookcase/china cabinet at an sale. The front doors are glass. It is a Stow & Davis #442. Can you tell me anything about it?
