Last Chance To See Rosenbaum?
With more and more pressure being put on state and local governments to make ends meet, architecture is taking a back seat. We reported earlier that places like the Dana-Thomas House (owned by cash-strapped Illinois) might close as soon as October. Well, the Rosenbaum House in Florence, Alabama might join that list as well.
As written in a recent Times Daily article:
"Hargett said he would seek to decrease the city's tax collection from 3.5 percent to 1.5 percent, which was the tax rate in 1989. He said he would seek to eliminate taxpayer incentive funds used to attract industries and also remove taxpayer donations to charities.
He suggested making up for the lost sales tax revenue by selling off city properties such as the Rosenbaum House, a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Florence."
It's troubling to think that this could be an ongoing trend for public architecture and that people could lose the opportunity to experience the amazing spaces these sites provide for people. Let us know what you think about this important issue.
