After painting an accent wall in our living room "Bicycle Yellow" (fitting, as my husband is an avid cyclist), we came across this post extolling the beauty of using a sunny yellow to brighten the often subdued color schemes of modern decor. And during the grey, rainy winters here in Portland, OR, we can use all the artificial sunshine we can get.
If you're nervous about introducing any shocking color to your home, try what we did (visual at left): Take a photo of the area with a paint chip near where you plan to use it (on a wall, sofa covering, drapes, etc.). This way the swatch accurately reflects the lighting in your home, not what you see in the hardware store. Use the dropper tool in Photoshop to "pick up" that swatch and color the intended area with it. Voila! A quick, inexpensive sneak preview of the result. The retouched photo at left looks exactly like the painted result and we couldn't be happier with it.

Have you dreamed of owning a Frank Lloyd Wright home? Here's your chance to not only own one, but become a preservation hero as well. Landmarks Illinois has listed the William Ross house of Glencoe, IL on its "demo watch list". That's bad news. This house needs some serious TLC (Yikes! Lavender paint job!) but there are incentives if you are able to step-in and save it. Follow the link to learn more.

One of our readers, Sean from Illinois, needs your help!
My wife and I are putting up some new curtains in a prairie style home and are having trouble finding some nice prairie inspired curtain rods. I was wondering if you or your readers knew of any? Thanks...Sean.

I just received the Fall 2008 Flor catalog. Not only is it beautifully designed, but it has great ideas for inspiration on dressing the floor of your home. There are a few new area rugs that I love. The first is the Stitch in Time which is pictured here. The others are the Souk Chic and Hello Down There. Now I just have to figure out where I can put them.

The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Dana House is set to close in a few weeks. Site curator, Don Hallmark, has been with the house through thick and thin over the years and can't hide his utter contempt for the way the Illinois powers-that-be are 'handling" this situation. You can read his response in this article by following the link.

Fellow NYC transplant Allison Perlowski (who's now a resident of Chicago suburb Glenview) sent in a link for this tongue-in-cheek tablewear set, which reflects the blueblood Delft fine china style. Except this set features classic NYC icons such as taxis, garbage trucks, hotdog cart and graffiti. This is definitely NOT your grandmother's dinnerware!

I can't believe I'm excited by an electrical outlet!
It looks like any normal electrical outlet but the cool thing about this one is it rotates. Which if you've ever tried to plug in your mac laptop, you either have to find an outlet with nothing else is plugged into it or unplug the lamp. With this baby, all you have to do is rotate the plug, how sweet is that! Oh, and it's only $10 and available in beige, white and black. Buy it here.

If you've been conscious of the news lately, there's been a lot of talk about "Drill Here, Drill Now!" Treehugger.com recently posted this info graphic from Architecture 2030 based on U.S. Energy Administration Information that shows that all this hot air about drilling would only amount to a drop in our consumption bucket. A Neo-Robie House currently for sale in Palos Park, IL? Unbelievably, it's true.
