I drove past the 2008 Designer Showcase House in River Forest yesterday. The event is a fundraiser for the area's Children's Clinic. However, showcasing such a bloated monument to excess as an 8,000 sqft "30-year-old" English style brick and stone manor seems like a poor choice. There are several homes in the area with far superior design to showcase—design that is actually pertinent for the times and the challenges we face. Check out info at this link.

You should see the inside!
This home is superior in design to any home in its
category.
What other homes would you recommend?
They will be doing this again next year and could use your help!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the comment. I did see several shots of the interior and it looked like a lot of flash very little substance. I would agree that this was probably very well designed for a home in this category...I just take exception to the entire category of these types of McMansion homes.
I would recommend a home that is closer to the ideals of principled living instead of conspicuous consumption. Any of the beautifully modest-sized Prairie homes in the area, American Four Squares or bungalows would suit this purpose perfectly. Show great design for how people really do and should live. Don't indulge the "Bigger is Better" culture trap that the 2008 Show House perpetuates. Just my personal opinion.
