I got an email from our friends at Wright in Wisconsin about their upcoming November 14, 2009 event that is not-to-be-missed! If you love the Arts and Crafts movement and touring private Frank Lloyd Wright homes, then read more after the jump...
Join Frank Lloyd Wright Wisconsin on Saturday, November 14 for a very special day-trip to Chicago via chartered motor coach. This unique adventure will include a visit to The Art Institute of Chicago and interior tours of two private Wright-designed homes!
We begin the day at the world-renowned Art Institute of Chicago touring the new exhibition, Apostles of Beauty: Arts and Crafts from Britain to Chicago. This is the first Arts and Crafts exhibition mounted by the museum in more than thirty years and it traces the movement's development through works of its most noted practitioners, from William Morris....to Frank Lloyd Wright. After the exhibition there will be time on your own for lunch and exploration. You may have a favorite part of the museum you wish to revisit or use this time to see the newly opened Modern Wing of the museum designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano.
We complete the day with interior tours of two private homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The Emil Bach House, located in the Rogers Park neighborhood, was designed by Wright in 1915 and is representative of Wright's late Prairie style. We then travel to Highland Park for a tour of the Ward W. Willits House. Designed by Wright in 1901 this residence is considered the first of the great Prairie houses. Both of these remarkable homes are listed on the National Register.
A chartered motor coach will depart Madison at 7:30 a.m. and Milwaukee at 9:00 a.m. The cost of this once in a lifetime opportunity is $85 for FLLWWI members and $100 for non-members. Light refreshments will be provided while on board the motor coach. Racine pick-up may be available upon request. (I'm sure those of you who live in the Chicagoland area will be able to coordinate with FLLWWIW to figure out the logistics of participating).
This is a limited capacity event. Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. For more information click here or to make your reservation, call Sherri Shokler at 608-287-0339.
