Champagne and Shopping, the grand opening of ShopWright at The Rookery, is open to the public and will feature a 10% discount on all merchandise. Guests can also enter to win three prizes throughout the evening. Beverages and appetizers will be served in The Rookery lobby, and free tours of the rarely seen Rookery Vault which houses a number of cataloged architectural elements salvaged from the building’s 1992 restoration—Frank Lloyd Wright and John Wellborn Root era ornamental ironwork and elevator door grilles; brass and glass elevator indicators from the William Drummond era renovation; incised marble fragments by Root, Wright and Annette Cremin Byrne—are available to the public.
The Preservation Trust is also expanding tours of the iconic structure. Beginning August 1, tours will operate five days a week: Monday through Friday. The noon “lunchtime” tours are $5, excluding the Wednesday tour that includes a visit inside the Burnham Library. That tour is $10. No advance tickets are necessary. Tickets will be available in the new ShopWright store adjacent to the Preservation Trust’s administrative offices in The Rookery lobby. Members of the Trust receive free tours.
The ShopWright store, as well as ShopWright.org, houses one of the largest collections of Frank Lloyd Wright and Prairie period designs in furniture, books, office accessories, jewelry, art, tableware and entertaining products. All purchases directly support the restoration, preservation and education programs of the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust.
