The Chicago Art Deco Society recently announced that the Commission on Chicago Landmarks voted unanimously to grant preliminary landmark status to Nick's Uptown (aka the Cairo Supper Club and Hupmobile Showroom). The Commission heard an excellent presentation by Terry Tatum, the Director of Research of the Historic Preservation Division of the City of Chicago, as well as comments from Ward Miller of Preservation Chicago, Abby Sullivan from Alderman James Cappleman's office (who initially sought landmark status of the building), and CADS' Vice President and Preservation Chair Amy Keller. We look forward to monitoring the status of this beautiful Art Deco building. More about the building here.
