The Historic Preservation League of Oregon just announced the date for their 2012 Mid-Century Marvelous Home Tour! Last year the tour featured eight Oak Hills Robert Rummer houses; this year's lineup has yet to be announced. Those interested in visiting the Portland area for this event should also consider touring Oregon's only Frank Lloyd Wright home, the Gordon House. Portland, Oregon, is awash with mint condition mid-century homes and agents devoted to marketing them — who knows what you'll stumble upon?

The Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust is offering is leading a 12-day guided tour to Japan on March 28, 2012, which will appeal to anyone interested in experiencing firsthand the magic that the country's history and culture had as an influence on the Architect's work. The trip takes travelers through several cities (Tokyo, Kyoto, Atami, Osaka...), Wright's three surviving Japanese buildings, and a number of temples, museums and gardens. FYI: There has been a change of venue for the event honoring architect Bob Broward's induction into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. The event will take place Monday, February 6, 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Jacksonville Historical Society Headquarters (Old St. Andrews) which is located at 317 A Philip Randolph Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida (Across from the Jacksonville Arena and next to the Baseball Grounds). The Minnesota Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians is hosting a lecture event at the Nokomis Library in Minneapolis titled "Works In Progress" next Tuesday, November 29, 2011 that will feature a presentation by Rob Barros on John Howe, Frank Lloyd Wright's premier draftsman and superb Organic Architect in his own right.

The Walter Burley Griffin Society of America's 13th Annual Meeting is set for June 23, 2012 in Minneapolis, MN. Similar to the 2011 meeting, the Minneapolis meeting will focus on the work of Griffin's Prairie School mentors and associates, specifically Purcell & Elmslie. There will be a special showing of Griffin-related materiel held at the Northwest Architectural Archives of the University of Minnesota. An optional tour is also being mentioned which would include a visit to Louis Sullivan's National Farmers' Bank in Owatonna, MN.

Richard Johnson, of the "Rediscovering Wright Project," will be giving a lecture at the Glen Ellyn History Center at 11 a.m. and then guiding a tour of the Heald House Saturday, October 22, 2011. Johnson and his colleagues assert that the little-known Glen Ellyn home was not the work of architect Harry Robinson, but actually an uncredited Frank Lloyd Wright design. The Morton Grove Champion reports that the Kalo Foundation’s open house last week at the newly acquired Iannelli Studios Heritage Center in Park Ridge, IL drew a healthy crowd of visitors to see the site where Alfonso Iannelli and several other prominent Modernists worked. Three unique homes in Fort Wayne, IN will be open for the "Art, Architecture And Antipasto Tour" on October 16, 2011, which benefits the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Of particular note is the fact that the 1914 John B. Franke house will be one of the three on the tour, a Prairie-style home designed by Barry Byrne with interior work by Alfonso Iannelli. This year, a celebration has been under way honoring the 100th anniversary of Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright's personal home in Spring Green, WI. Taliesin (1911) is a definitive architectural masterpiece and was officially nominated this year as a World Heritage Site, along with ten other Wright buildings. The Taliesin Centennial season included an opening reception at the Milwaukee Art Museum, several concerts, lectures, workshops and exhibits, all paying homage to the artistic life, history and community that encompass Wright’s legacy.
