CBB still has spaces for a guided tour of Lake Point Tower, the iconic highrise on the Chicago skyline, which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year. The tower contains a 2 ½ acre roof top park, Skyline Park, designed by renowned landscape designer Alfred Caldwell.

I got an email from Milwaukee architect and artist Justin Racinowski with a link to his website gallery of beautifully colorful and abstract paintings. I especially liked the painting seen at left called "Ratios" along with several other landscapes and even a colorful rendition of the lost Tokyo Imperial Hotel. The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Google announced a global, online design competition that lets you use Google Earth and Google SketchUp to design virtual 3-D shelters. Titled "Design It: Shelter Competition," anyone can submit an original 100-square-foot living and work space shelter design through Aug. 23. Skylight, the newest art tile in Motawi’s Frank Lloyd Wright Collection®, is a striking design based on the art glass skylight in the architect’s Oak Park Studio.
Created specifically for the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust and their annual WrightPlus event, this new Motawi tile combines warm green and brown glazes that echo the colors in Mr. Wright’s studio skylight.

PrairieMod reader Paul R. sent us a link to an interesting tour hosted by Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana partnering with the Wabash Valley Trust for Historic Preservation.
Titled Back to the Future: Mid-century Modern Home Tour, it will take place Saturday, May 30 1 to 6 p.m. in West Lafayette, IN. Five Modernist homes designed by some of Indiana's most forward-thinking twentieth-century architects will be open for tours. I caused a bit of a stir yesterday with my mysterious post, though I was not trying to be a tease. The news I can now announce was embargoed and kept very secret--until now.
Today, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois, to its 2009 list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. This annual list highlights important examples of the nation’s architectural, cultural and natural heritage that are at risk of destruction or irreparable damage.
This places Unity Temple on a very special (if not alarming) pedestal. Out of so many important national sites in need, this building has been specially chosen for its uniqueness and for the terrible risk it is in of being lost forever. As one of the last remaining public building from Wright's Prairie Period, and arguably in the top five of his most important designs, the time is NOW to Save Unity Temple. The tenth annual meeting of the Walter Burley Griffin Society of America has been set for June 20, 2009. The meeting will be held in the north-shore Chicago suburb of Kenilworth. Speakers will include Kathy Cummings, Sharon Darling and Professor Paul Kruty. Afternoon tours will look at houses by Griffin, Marion Mahony and John S. Van Bergen.
