George Mann Niedecken-Fever is spreading! With the new exhibit in Milwaukee and the lecture tonight at Prairie Loft (with book signing by Cheryl Robertson), it seems Mr. Niedecken is a hot commodity.
One of our readers, Jim Hartland of North Olmstead, Ohio, enjoyed the exhibit sneak-peek photos we posted recently and sent along a photo of some Niedecken-inspired art glass he created for his own home. Living PrairieMod!
Feel free to send along your thoughts and photos of anything that inspires you to live PrairieMod. See you at the events!

One of the things that struck me as I walked around the New York International Gift Show this last weekend was how powerful the idea of gifts are in our lives. Here I was walking around a giant convention center looking at booth after endless booth of products of all shapes, sizes and materials ultimately meant for someone to give as a gift. Gifts are something that we spend considerable amounts of time and money choosing for our friends, loved ones and oftentimes ourselves. Yet, while viewing firsthand the products that are meant to be the gifts we all will be offered to buy in 2007, I was left wondering how principles enter the equation when considering “gifts.” For the last PrairieMod Monday of January and in recognition of the NYC Gift Show, I thought it would be a good chance to explore the “Principles of Gifts.”

This month, we take you to the Paul Schweikher Home & Studio in Schaumburg, Illinois. Schweikher was an accomplished Organic Architect who practiced in the Chicagoland area between the 1930's-1950's.
Our interview is with Jeff Whyte, the building architect who tells us the story about this marvelous place, the people it has inspired and why he's setup his own architectural studio on the property.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to get any shots of the home and studio...but the Chicago Bauhaus & Beyond website has some good pics here.

Here it is...our new monthly feature, Living PrairieMod! Each month we will glean the experiences of folks who live and/or work in structures that fit the definition of the PrairieMod Lifestyle. These specifically identified structures have and will be chosen because they are marvelous examples of beautiful environments and we'll explore some of the things that make them so.
This month we've interviewed budding Generation Y architect Trevor Pan, a recent graduate of The Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. Trevor talks with us about Frank Lloyd Wright's design principles, the architectural profession and his desert shelter, 3 Desert Way. You can listen to the interview via our first podcast by clicking the link below.
Interestingly, the article about Trevor's Desert Shelter is the only published piece about the structures at Taliesin West to appear in Architectural Record.
View some photos of Trevor's 3 Desert Way: Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3
