PrairieMod's Mission
Our mission is to provide an online community for showcasing designs, products, people, places, ideas, and events that promote a principle-based modern lifestyle, while encouraging our audience to participate and assist in building that community.
Where Does the Word PrairieMod Come From?
The word PrairieMod itself is a conjunction of "Prairie" and "Modern." It refers to two eras in design history that have a tremendous impact on American living: the Prairie School and Modernism.
The PrairieMod Lifestyle
The ideas behind PrairieMod are based upon 10 principles recognized and utilized by some of history's most influential designers: Gustav Stickley, Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, Charles and Ray Eames, John Lautner and E. Fay Jones to name a few.
The 10 principles include: Consider the Cost, Form is Function, Less Becomes More, Useful and Beautiful, Informal Meets Elegant, Integrate and Unify, Bring the Outside In, Think Natural, Go Green, and Uniquely You.
We believe that a lifestyle should be designed in a way that fits the real needs of the person living it and through the practice of these principles, one can excel in the art of modern living.
Why Are Principles So Important to PrairieMod?
Principles are time-tested truths that form the foundation upon which all great ideas are built. They function regardless of our awareness or obedience to them. Principles are also the only constant we know in a relentlessly changing and technologically-advanced modern world. PrairieMod aims to simply recognize and respect this fact.
