Sometimes the impossible does happen. When it seemed like the end had come for Polaroid film, an intrepid group of enthusiasts formed The Impossible Project to save the last Polaroid
production plant for Integral Instant film in Enschede (NL) and started
to re-invent and re-produce a new instant film for traditional Polaroid
Cameras. Now you can order the film through their website, so that your Henry Dreyfus-designed Polaroid SX-70 won't collect dust anymore. Read about it here.

A few weeks ago, I posted about stumbling across the art glass remnants of the George W. Maher-designed Charles H. Morse residence, formally of Glencoe, IL. After a little asking around at the Glencoe Historical Society and with the help of Maher expert Donald M. Aucutt, I was able to turn up a rare image of the house prior to its destruction. It serves as a grim reminder of the history we've lost and how we need to work hard to save what's left.

It was a terrible tragedy when the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Imperial Hotel in Tokyo was torn down in the late 1960s. Lost forever was a masterpiece of architecture and what many historians consider the last, great handmade building (thanks to the efforts of scores of Japanese craftspeople). I stumbled across a website last night filled with really great vintage images and drawings of the now-lost building that I'm sure you'll enjoy. Follow the link to see more.
